A Few of my Favroites

There are plenty of great things about the hoildays but being such a TV junkie one of my favroite things is all of the Chritmas movies and specials that I get to watch. Here a few of my all time favroites, along with the rest of our teams.

Scrooged is probably the first Christmas movie I started to watch every year. Such a classic story with such a strange twist to it. My favroite was the crazy fariy who just crazy and sparkly.

Die Hard while not the classic Christmas Movie is a great tale about using the Christmas Spirit to save lives and take down the bad guys. It has now become a household tradation for some of us to watch it this time of year.

Love Actually is such a feel good movie, its great to just cuddle up on the sofa and watch with your one and only or just all of your friends.

An all time favroite for every age, Just last year I introduced this to my newphews and they loved it! It can really be enjoyed by everyone. Not to mention my favorite parts of this movie, the soundtrack and the great one liners.

No Christams would be complete with out turning on A Christmas Story for a least one of the at least 8 showings that happen on Christmas Eve and Day alone. With such an honest story it is a job to not laugh.

An all around favroite. The season would just not be complete without It's A Wonderful Life

While not orginally a traditional Christmas movie, A Nightmare Before Christmas has quickly gained cult following is now on many great Christmas movie lists. At one point in my childhood I could recite almost every song. I love the snow and Christmas land and the werid-sweet love story.

Last but not at all least is the orginal How the Grinch Stole Christmas. A pure classic. I was pretty sad when they remade this actually, but there is no fighting with the charm and happiness that this movie brings.

From all of us at the Virginia Gail Collection we wish you Happy Holidays and hope that you all find some time to relax and watch one of these great movies!

Recent Travels

There is a very good reason why we havn't updated in a few days. I have been on a world wind adventure through West Virginia. Although I wasn't quite sure what to expect while I was there I very much enjoyed myself. We went and cut down our own Christmas tree, in the snow, and have a wood fire going all weekend. My favorite part, by far, was finding out that Falling Water was just an hour drive away from where we were staying. The house was all that I thought it would be, and more. Sadly I wasn't allowed to take photos inside the house, but I do have some of the outside. I need to go back during the fall or spring and have one of their sunset tours!

Enjoy!

Let the eating begin!

I hope that everyone is ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow, I know I am very excited about some deep fried turkey!

While I was at market this past fall I was able to go see Eddie Ross talk about getting involved in social media, blogging, Facebook and so on. It was a great meeting and I learned a lot. I decided to look into his blog and the first entry that I read was about his spread in Woman's Day. Check out the blog entry here. I fell in love with the wreath that he made and I have been wanting to decorate my home for the fall without being to cheesy, this was perfect!
Here is my attempt, I realized after I made it that being paper it should stay inside, but I have come to really like it inside. The wreath really brightens up the door to my water heater.
I used metallic scrap book paper instead of construction paper, and some "Christmas twigs" instead of wheat.

Happy Thanksgiving!

See Art? ArtSee.

It's always fun to find something new that really resonates on a personal level.

This week Holly Johnson introduced me to artsee - for people who create, support and love art.  This beautifully produced journal is an art lovers dream.  There is an article about our local Chapel Hill jewel, the Ackland Art Museum, and includes articles about art, artisits, galleries and exhibitions in the Triangle and surrounding area.  What more could a girl want?  You can subscribe or pick up a free copy at The Virginia Gail Collection.

What's in a venue?

 Brilliance, beauty, radiance and shine.

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend DPAC (Duram Performing Arts Center) to see the Broadway Tony award-winning show Billy Elliot.
Knowing the story, I was eager to see the performance.  Everything was spectacular.  The talent was unbelievable, from the singing, to the acting to the creative lighting and of course the beautiful dancing.
There is much to say about a great show, but a lot of it has to do with the venue.  DPAC is the new play house in Durham, NC.  Having been the host of such Broadway shows like Wicked, Rent, The Phantom of the Opera  and welcomed musical guests from many genres, this venue has become a highlight for the Triangle Area.  Its projecting beam of light that reflects off of the evening sky plays a beacon encouraging musical lovers, play patrons and dreamers to visit the buildings 5 story glass facade.
Take a trip to DPAC to see a show and make sure while you are there to enjoy the beautiful building and welcoming decor.

'Tis Getting Close

Yesterday morning I woke up and was checking my email and saw one concerning a family gathering NEXT WEEK, I thought surely this cannot be true, sure enough it was. Thanksgiving is right around the corner. After that comes holiday parties, shopping, more holiday parties, family visiting, going to visit family, new years and then all of a sudden it is January and you somewhat feel as though you missed the whole holiday season. That being said I am enjoying the holidays while I can!
These appeared over night in the store:

Schumacher, J Ennis, and Chealsea Fabric, Serena & Lily Bench, Riado Candle Holders,
Stanley Dining Room Table, and Currey and Co Chandelier

Kravet and Greenhouse Fabrics, Phillip Jeffries Wall Coverings, Young America Nursery Set

Just shows that not all holiday decor has to be green, red, and gold.
We also have some great wreaths for sale, and they are already decorated all you need to do is hang it up!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Nothing says the holidays are here like ...

Cheese Straws.

Didn't expect me to throw that out there did you? I'm sure you thought I'd say the beautifully decorated trees adorning the mall, or the glistening ornaments glaming up the showroom. Or even the promise that the U-Mall Santa is on his way...

Nope, cheese straws.

I have fond memories of being a little girl and baking cheese straws with my mom to package up and give to family friends as holiday party hostess gifts. Those tasty snacks and fond memories are now available in a pre-packaged version in the showroom without the work & time to make your own! Best part, they are just a good as the ones you make at home, in fact, I'll venture to say the cheese rings are better than homemade.
Ginny O, a Raleigh producer of cheese rings, bakes up delicious batches of these tasty rings daily from their over 150 year old family recipe. Listed as one of Oprah's favorite things, featured on the Food Network, served on Air Force One, & in the NC Governor's mansion, these cheese straws are sure to become a holiday favorite!

Why don't you stop by for a sample, and pick up a package or two to take as a pre-feast munchie next week?

Living in Color: Purple

Being a designer and a resident of an apartment building I am constantly struggling to add color, and life, to my new post college home. It has been a little more of a challenge than I thought it would be. At High Point I noticed that purple is slowly making a come back and I must say, I like it.A set of these were in the Currey & Co showroom and I have been trying to find a place to use them in. No such luck yet, sadly I don't think they would quite work in my home.

This Kravet Fabric could easily go from casual to modern.

These ruffle shower curtains by India Rose are very fun but the purple makes it slightly more daring.

The dark purple is great for fall and can also transition very well into holiday decor. This card is from www.smudgeink.com and I love the different shades of purple used.

I also think I need this skirt from Banana Republic. I need a fancy skirt for the holidays, and I think this is perfect. Also, if you go to Banana's website and search for purple you'll be amazed at the amount of great stuff that is there right now.
Have a great Wednesday everyone, try to stay warm!
